With all of that said, I had a decision to make. My best guess is that the combination of the Mac OS update and the lack of Lightroom 5 updates has made the tethering stop working. The only thing that had changed was my Mac’s operating system. This made no sense because it has worked previously. I did a lot of research and tried several different fixes, but nothing worked.
All of a sudden Lightroom 5 stopped finding my cameras. Everything was great until about 6 months ago. I photograph a few events and schools throughout the year, and I always tether. For the past 3 or 4 years I’ve been using a combination of Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6, and I had no intention of switching over to Adobe CC. I kept using it for several years, and eventually I broke down and bought the CS6 Creative Suite and a year or two later Lightroom 5. That was a bit expensive but I could use it for as long as I wanted, and I did. I started off with Photoshop CS3 and then I bought the CS4 Creative Suite. Nikon Z fc, Nikkor Z 16-50mm, Canon 7D2, Sigma 18-35 f/1.8, Canon EF 70-200 L f/4 IS, EF 35 f/2 IS, EFs 10-18 STM, EFs 15-85, EF 50 f/1.8 STM, Tamron 18-400, B+W MRC CPL, Vanguard Alta Pro 254CT & SBH 250 head.I’ve been using Adobe products since roughly 2005. If the quality of the output is poor, than the various features really don't matter, no matter how good they might be. The JPEG files lack contrast and vibrance and colors are not very natural.".
You, yourself, put the final nail in the coffin when you said, "The biggest drawback of On1 is the quality of the files generated, I must admit that they are not up to par. I could go on and on about what I see as limitations in ON1, and why, However, the only thing I will comment on is NoNoise, It is definitely an improvement but it is not quite as good as Topaz Denoise AI and it is not in the same league a PhotoLab DeepPRIME. The price is a fraction of the one of Capture One The user interface of On1 for me is a joy to use, the AI noise reduction is the best I have seen, many of the Effects are extremely useful, local adjustments are much better than in LR, the workflow with layers and masks within the same program, in RAW and non-destructive is enormously better than LR and PS. The JPEG files lack contrast and vibrance and colors are not very natural.
The biggest drawback of On1 is the quality of the files generated, I must admit that they are not up to par. Regarding speed, the 2021 version in my opinion is a bit slower than LR, an annoyance certainly, but not a deal-breaker. I cannot consider any programs that doesn't handle Video files. I have learned several things, both of you are certainly very knowledgeable.Īs far as I know On1 RAW is the only one, apart from LR to be able to catalog and organize video files (correct me if I am wrong), and this is an absolute must for me and for most of my community.
